@DrAnanyaKaul You are mistaken on a few counts.
First of all, Yogasutrabhashya (2.1) says Svadhayaya
1) Chanting Pranava (Om) or
2) Reading Mokshashastras (Vedic/Upanishadic scriptures)
Translation in your snippet is horrible. It translates "Mokshashastras" as "release scriptures"
(1/n)
@DrAnanyaKaul The "source" you have used is spurious. The authenticity of these "sub commentaries" has been questioned by leading scholars.
That said, your source is undoubtedly proving my point that Svadhayaya means "study of scriptures"
(2/n)
@DrAnanyaKaul Brahmasutra Bhashya of Adi Shankaracarya says that only the Veda learning student ought to chant Pranava.
Which virtually shows that 1=2 meaning Svadhayaya means "study of scripture" taken either way.
You see your own snippet and its translation is proving my point (3/n)
@DrAnanyaKaul Your own snippets nowhere say that Svadhayaya means "observing oneself" as you claim
That is NOT the literal meaning.
Of course, one is free to make one's own spiritual interpretations/draw inferences. I'm not disputing yours.
But that doesnt mean literal meaning is false.
