THREAD on Salah
This is just a short thread going though the conditions and steps to performing Salah (prayer).
Salah is a fundamental pillar of Islam and it will be the first thing we are asked about on the day of judgement.
Conditions for Salah
1-The intention
2-Facing the Qiblah (towards Makkah)
3-Time for prayer has entered
4-Covering your awrah
5-Have made wudhu (or ghusl if appropriate)
Making Wudhu
Before taking wudhu, have the intention to purify/ cleanse in readiness for Salah. Note: in case of major impurity then ghusl would be needed
Once you have the intention say ‘Bismi Allah’ to begin. (Note: this is from the Sunnah, so not saying it will not invalidate your wudhu)
To make wudhu, wash the following thrice (and in this order) In’shaa Allah
▪️Hands
◼️Mouth and nose
◼️Face
◼️Arms - Right arm then left (wrist to above the elbow)
◼️Head (ensure water reaches the scalp)
◼️Ears
◼️Feet - Right foot then left (toes to above the ankle)
Upon completion say:
I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone, Who has no partner; and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger.
Muslim 1/209
اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِي مِنَ التَّوَّابِينَ وَاجْعَلْنِي مِنَ الْمُتَطَهِّرِينَ
Allahummaj 'alni minat-tawwabina waj'alni minal-mutatahhirin.
O Allah, make me among those who turn to You in repentance, and make me among those who are purified.
Nasa'i
Before beginning your Salah, ensure the area is clean and you are facing in the direction of Makkah (The Ka’aba)
You start with raising hands (this is from the Sunnah) to the level of you shoulders, palms facing towards the qibla. You then say ‘Allahu Akbar’ this is called takbirat Al-Ihram and is compulsory.
You start with raising hands (this is from the Sunnah) to the level of you shoulders, palms facing towards the qibla. You then say ‘Allahu Akbar’ this is called takbirat Al-Ihram and is compulsory.
After saying ‘Allahu Akbar, we make a short dua (this is known as dua Al’istiftah)
“Allahuma baa’id baynee wa bayna khataya’i...” or “Subhanaka Allahuma wa bi’hamdika...” (This is from the Sunnah not compulsory)
You then say “A’oudhu Billahi min A’shaytan alrajeem” this is also from the Sunnah.
Then recite Surat AlFatiha (which is compulsory) - there is no Salah without AlFatiha
You follow Surat AlFatiha with another Surah (in the first two raka’at) this is from the Sunnah. Note: not reciting a Surah after AlFatiha will not invalidate you Salah.
You then raise your hands again (to the level of your shoulders and say ‘Allahu Akbar’ to go into ruko’u and say ‘Subhana rabbi Aladheem (three times)
During your return to the standing position you say ‘Sami’a Allahu li’man hamida. Once stood you raise your hands again (this is from the Sunnah) you then say ‘Rabana laka Alhamd’ or ‘Rabana wa laka Alhamd’
You then say ‘Allahu Akbar’ and go into Sujood (prostration). During prostration, the following must be on the ground
-Forehead and the bridge of you nose.
-Hands (palms flat)
-Knees
-Feet
During sujood you say ‘Subhana rabbi Al’Ala, three times. You can also make dua (supplication) During sujood - which is recommended.
You then say ‘Allahu Akbar’ and raise to the kneeling position. While kneeling say ‘Rabb ighfar lee, Rabb ighfar lee’
You then say ‘Allahu Akbar’ and go in to sujood again and say ‘Subhana rabbi Al’Ala, three times.(again you can also make dua during sujood)
You then say ‘Allahu Akbar, and return to the standing position. And repeat again from Surat AlFatiha.
Once you have done this twice, you conclude each two raka’at of Salah with tashahud. This is dong by remaining in the kneeling position (after the send prostration’ and saying “I’tahiyatu lillah wa salawatu wa tayibatu....”
In your final tashahud, you say the Tahiyatu, followed by sending salutations upon prophet Muhammad ﷺ i.e. “Allahuma sali ala Muhammad wa ala ali Muhammad kama salaytu ala Ibrahim.....”
You can then add additional Duas e.g.
“Allahuma ini a’oudhu bika min adhab AlQabr, wa min adhab aljahanum....” (highly recommended) supplications can be found in Hisn Almuslim
In’shaa Allah you find this beneficial, please share to benefit others. Jazakum Allah Khair
