The meeting to elect a new Emir was held according to the chieftancy laws of Kaduna state. All the 5 kingmakers were present and each voted. Once Elrufai realized his candidate was losing, he ordered fresh elections. His candidate lost again. He is now trying to name someone else

Bashari is the son of late emir of Zazzau Aminu who died in 1975 and was succeeded by the late Alh shehu Idris. Bashari is the closest person to late Emir Idris who is his uncle, and they both have been together for over 45yrs.
