I’ve been frustrated for a while about the lack of diversity in engineering and data science roles at early-stage startups. So I’m starting a small mentorship circle for women and nonbinary people around this theme. Please send to anyone who might be interested! Details below:
I’m looking for 3 others in (or formerly in) engineering or DS roles at startups with at least 2 years of experience to be mentors and 4 university students interested in technical roles at early-stage startups to be mentees. Women or non-binary identifying individuals only.
We will meet via Zoom 5:30-6:30pm PT on Tuesdays between Nov 17 and Dec 8.
The format will be as follows: 30m 1:1 between a different mentor-mentee pairing, then 30m “pod” with two pairings. The timing will unfortunately be fixed for this iteration to make things easy.

I am doing this because I wish I could have talked to more people in technical roles at early-stage startups that looked like me when I was recruiting a couple of years ago, and I am curious what issues are top-of-mind for women and non-binary students who are recruiting now.
If you’re interested, please DM me with the following: name, email, role in company (if potential mentor), year & field of study in university (if potential mentee), 1 sentence describing what you want to get from this, and 1 sentence describing what you want to give to this.
I apologize in advance if there is too much interest and I don’t respond to everyone. Maybe in future iterations we can open this up if this goes well. Looking forward to it! Please forward to anyone you know who might be interested. 😊
