“Hail, oh hail liberty” — Greek illustration from the Second World War published in Rizospastis, the official newspaper of the Greek Communist Party (KKE).
The illustration shows a modern partisan shaking hands with a revolutionary soldier of the 1821 War of Independence against the Ottoman Empire.
During the Second World War the KKE joined forces with other leftist parties to form the National Liberation Front (EAM), the primary partisan force within the Greek Resistance.
Vaso Katraki - a Greek artist known for her experimental work, especially her wood engravings - designed this piece for the EAM along with many others, including some its most famous posters
