The "5 Why's"
An often overlooked mental model, but its simplicity makes it so effective.
When you encounter a problem or failure, ask "Why?" 5+ times to get to the root cause.
This technique helps you clearly define the problem.
Examples 👇👇👇
Problem: No one likes my bomb ass tweets
Why? My tweets don't have enough exposure
Why? I don't have enough followers
Why? I have no relationships on Twitter
Why? I haven't genuinely interacted with others
Why? Because I just rephrase the original tweets on big accounts
Problem: I have no clients
Why? I haven't had many strategy sessions
Why? My outreach isn't booking calls
Why? My message isn't resonating
Why? I don't understand the market needs
Why? I haven't done enough market research
Problem: I'm afraid of others judging me
Why? I value what others think
Why? I attach my own self-worth to others' opinions
Why? I lack self-esteem
Why? I haven't achieved much lately
Why? I'm afraid of others judging me
Sometimes you'll have to intervene to break a cycle.
The #5 in the "5 Why's" is just a random number.
It just gets you thinking deeper about the problem.
As Einstein said about problem solving:
“I would spend 55 minutes defining the problem and then five minutes solving it.”
