Bargir: A cavalry man who gets a horse and weapons from the state.

Shivaji Maharaj always supported the raising of Bargirs instead of shiledars.

Santaji's cavalry harassed Mughal armies to such an extent, that the contemporary Mughal historian Khafi Khan had this to say about Santaji's death:- "The death of Santa at this time was a great piece of good fortune for Aurangzeb."

Santaji's cavalry marched w/ great speed. With his rapid tactical marches,he defeated & killed Mughal Gen. Himmat Khan.
With his rapid marches, & cutting of Mughal Gen. Qasim Khan's supplies at Dodderi,he set an example of how a military fight with min casualties is fought.
