How to Conquer Indulgence and Impulsiveness
Stop gratifying yourself with impulsive pleasures, they will eventually lead to your downfall.
- Thread -
Man's enemy and downfall is indulgence; it sets him off the path and briefly consoles him. It wrecks his discipline and strays from virtue.
Gratification is man's coping mechanism for denial when responsibility is avoided and meaning gets lost.
You gratify yourself with brief impulsive pleasures since confronting responsibility and restraining yourself to sustain it is far harder than desensitizing yourself with uncontrollable indulgence.
Every time you shun duty, you lessen dignity.
Man must possess self-restraint, discipline and moderation.
This is not a possibility, this is the ideal course to grow and sharpen your nature while circumventing indulgence and pleasure-seeking.
Restraint is control and impulsiveness the lack of it.
Through restraint, you fall in-line with your inherent strength and fall out of line with gratification, which is simply antagonistic to being a man of honour.
To restrain yourself, you must also endure; an element of perseverance for resolution.
Restraint is not limiting, it is utterly releasing and liberating and this is the real key.
In due course, you will come to want only what is essential and this is the mark of supreme integrity; compromising fleeting pleasure is no longer a necessity.
To sum up, it all starts with regulation, direction, order, consistent regimen and a firm purpose to keep you grounded.
These are foundational to being a man, their cultivation is your strengthening and harmony.
Stop numbing yourself with pleasure.
