What did the Ash’ari scholars say about Abu Hanifa?
Abul Hassan Al-ashari
The 9th group from the Murjia, Abu Hanifa and his companions, they claim faith is knowing and affirming Allah, knowing and affirming the prophet, with what came to him from Allah in general without explanation.

Al-juwayni Al-ashari said:
And as for Abu Hanifa, he was not from the Mujtahideen to begin with, because he didn't know Arabic, and he didn't know Ahadith to the point he accepted all weak narrations and opposed all authentic narrations, and he didn't know usool.......
.........therefore he placed Qiyas above Ahadith and due to his lack of Fiqh his madhab was all over the place with contradictions and incoherence.
And he used to say Iman isn't harmed by sins like actions are of no benefit with kufur.
And about this statement, it is said Abu Hanifa fell into Irja twice, this is the madhab (murjia), so how can it be thought that a person in this condition can be a Mujtahid.

Al-ghazali Al-ashari
And as for Abu Hanifa, he was not a Mujtahid, because he didn't know language (Arabic), and he didn't know Ahadith, and for this he had a tendency in accepting weak Ahadith and rejecting the authentic from it.
He wasn't a faqeeh rather he was pretending to be / he was consistently upon opposition to and in contradiction of Usul and its origin
