Reminder that some folks think “strongly taxing landlords” would solve our cost-of-living crisis in the USA.
You don’t think landlords would pass those expenses down?
How about we get a few regulations out of the way so builders can build in our major cities!

Why it’ll never happen:
The folks who own those big homes on 1/2 acre lots in Brighton are on the local planning and zoning boards.
They would never allow higher density housing because that would decrease the value of their big ol’ home.
It’s a textbook cartel.

The folks who’s best interest lies in limiting supply control the supply.
So they send developers packing.
On every corner in every Boston suburb you have signs rallying the public to stop development of a new multifamily project.
Not in my back yard!

So the same folks sitting in their 4 bedroom homes worth 10x what they paid 30 years ago are acting like they care about affordable housing.
The solution is simple!
Let capitalism work and let developers build big housing complexes in our cities!

I am very pro-zoning. We can't have strip clubs next to schools or factories next to homes.
I also know a desirable city can't allow developers to run wild and ruin the culture. Stormwater is also critical.
But height / density restrictions and zoning from 1950 is failing.

And to a hammer everything looks like a nail.
And to a government official or board member its always more policy, more regulation and more control.
I don't think the problem will be fixed.
I'm long suburbs and smaller, awesome towns like Athens GA.
