Did the Prophet force Safiyyah bint Huyayy to get married to him and/or did he "rape" her?🧵:
Islamophobes claim that the prophet Muhammed (ﷺ) forced her to get married to him or they claim that he "raped" her when there is not a single authentic report that asserts this. Rather, authentic reports inform us she had a CHOICE to either go back or marry him.
Firstly, Safiyya had dreamed of marrying the Prophet Muhammed (ﷺ) and she got physically abused by her husband (Kinana bin al-Rabi) when she informed him about it.
Her husband hit her so hard it resulted in a black eye and this mark was still there when she met the Prophet. This report describes the incident.
"..That’s only because you desire the ‘King of Hījaz’, Muhammad!’ He then gave her a SLAP on her face that BLACKENED her EYE."
Another report of the incident as she is describing it.
"Safiyyah said, ‘It was CAUSED by my ex-husband when I told him of my dream in which I saw as if a moon had fallen into my lap, he [Kinana] SLAPPED me and said, ‘Do you aspire to marry the king of Yathrib (i.e Muhammad)?’"
Secondly, the report mentioning her having an option to either go back home or marry the Prophet (ﷺ).
"The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had chosen Safiyya, daughter of Huyay, for himself and offered her a CHOICE between having her freedom and marrying him, or joining her family; she had CHOSEN for him to free her and to be his wife."
Finally, here is a report of the him (ﷺ) making a wedding feast for her!
"Jabir reports, ‘When Safiyyah Huyay bin Akhtab came into the Messenger of God’s tent, many people including myself presented ourselves there to have a share (of the walīmah food)." When he emerged from...
..the tent, the Messenger of God said, ‘Leave your mother (my wife) alone’ (they all therefore left). When we gathered at the time of Isha, the Messenger of God came to us carrying in the edge of his shawl close to one and a half Mudd of Ajwah dates. The Messenger of God said,
‘Eat from the walīmah of your mother.’"
