Here is an excerpt from the writings of Edward Terry, a traveler to India who visited Chittor in the year 1619. This was just 51 years after Akbar's siege and capture of the fort. The fort's palaces were described to be in ruins and above 100 churches (temples?) were demolished.
The only residents of the city were birds and beasts, when Edward Terry visited, suggesting that in addition to a devastating destruction of buildings and temples, the city was essentially depopulated through the invasion.
It is pertinent to note that even in the Akbarnama, it was described that several Rajputs died protecting the temples (see excerpt below). The destruction to temples seems to have been quite severe once the Rajput army was massacred, according to Edward Terry's testimony.
