Short #thread on some of the valuable contributions of Mahadji Scindia to re-establish Hindu policies at Delhi in 1789.
1789 was the 1st centenary year of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Punyatithi. So, these events assume a special significance too.

1789, Jan: Mahadji Scindia re-acquired Delhi, and incorporated it into the Maratha confederacy. He remarks in a letter:
"Just like Satara, Delhi is also now our Sansthan. To put it in order is upto us."

In the early 1789, Nana Fadnavis (influential minister of Peshwa) wrote to Mahadji Scindia:
"Restoration of the Kashi Vishwanath Mandir is appropriate for Hindu Dharma..."

1789, Sep 4: Mahadji Scindia told Shah Alam to issue a firman *banning cow slaughter all over his Mughal territories.*
The firman notes: "Human & animal lives are dependent on the cow... We are banning all cow slaughter throughout our lands..."

"... No village, town, settlement should indulge in cow slaughter... Violators will be punished by the Badshah"

1790, May: Mahadji Scindia told Shah Alam to prepare grants to give Mathura-Vrindavan holy places to Marathas, away from Muslim control.
1790, Aug: The holy places were finally granted by Shah Alam to Marathas.

It is said that if it wasn't for Mahadji Scindia's death in 1794, Mathura would've eventually been made the northern Capital of Maratha empire by him!
