'Annihilation of Caste'
Caste in India is 4000-40,000 Jatis with a preference for traditional occupations, practising Endogamy.
Being a Hindu or Tamil doesn't imply you hate Muslims or Punjus. Similarly, identifying with your Jati or Varna isn't incompatible with getting along with other Jatis/Varnas. Most people get on just fine.
Ethnic, linguistic, religious, political & national identities have also long been used to marginalise. Should we abandon those identities as well? Phir bachega tumbleweed.
SCs don't seek the 'Annihilation of Caste' either. They proudly assert their identities, including in pop-culture, and practise Endogamy too.
'Caste = Casteism' is like saying Identity = Identitarianism. There's no such conveyor belt leading you from affirming any identity to hating others.
Jati is a useful institution. One of many reasons for its survival.
Members of a Jati are very likely to have high cultural and value compatibility. Hence, Endogamy. The Maratha and the Brahmin think differently, and that's fine.
Jati is the largest unit one can truly be selfless in. For the poor, it acts as a safety net. Perhaps an unintended consequence of Jati is that it acts against Classism. Members of a Jati may be rich or poor, they have obligations to each other.
Caste-related hate crime - and I don't believe it occurs as frequently as the Woke would have us believe - is sourced in groupism, not the enforcement of the ritual Varna hierarchy or any such order.
Jats beating up some SC guy for marrying a Jat woman don't believe they are superior to SCs but inferior to Agarwal ji, who in turn is inferior to Thakur sa'ab, in turn less important than Sharma ji ka ladka.
Here.
The "preference for caste(Jati) in India is horizontal, not vertical". This "goes against the traditional story about the caste system, which emphasises its hierarchical structure..".
Jati functions as an additional layer(identity) of clothing protecting us from the cold of McDonaldsisation(Deracination).
No significant movement in out-of-caste marriages between 1970-2012. Endogamy rate approximately 95%.
ISID 2017
Brahmins and OFCs have the highest rate of out-of-caste marriages, while OBCs and SCs have the lowest.
As I point out here,
SCs don't seek the 'Annihilation of Caste'.
Urbanisation doesn't dilute Endogamy. Indians in metropolitan urban areas have the highest Endogamy rate for any region.
Increments in assets and income don't dilute Endogamy either. "We observe that for the asset quartiles, the (out-of-caste marriage)rate goes down as we move up the asset distribution...A similar pattern can be observed for the income quartiles."
From the same paper.
Summary.
Princeton 2010. All rel groups included here, so slightly different results. Indian Endogamy rate is 89%. 90.3% in the more socioeconomically developed south. Very high Endogamy in Muslim erstwhile J&K, Tribal Chattisgarh, Christian-Tribal Meghalaya & post-Dravidian-movement TN.
More evidence that SCs/STs/OBCs don't seek the 'Annihilation of Caste'.
From the same Pew poll. Progressive 'The harsh reality of India' narratives and the actual reality of India are parallel lines.
What we have is caste, not a (caste) 'system'. Caste 'system' is British projection. They had systems for everything. Caste, otoh, like a lot of Indian Subcontinental institutions, was/is decentralised.
