An analysis on Coyote Starrk.
Starrk and his strength are often one of the biggest misconceptions in the Arrancar Saga.
A very subtly written character ends up producing an image of one who is weaker than those below him and blurs the lines of one who severely limits himself.
Despite his laid back, almost pacifist personality Starrk carries an immense level of strength and battle prowess that is unrivalled by any of the other Espada with the potential exception of Ulquiorra and Segunda Etapa.
Throughout his fights against FOUR Captain level fighters Starrk rarely misses a beat and his ability to analyse and adapt is repeatedly mentioned by the strongest most experienced captains in Soul Society.
Starrk is analytical in his battle style while largely keeping Shunsui on the back foot with his overwhelming spiritual energy output.
Knowing who Shunsui is later makes this even more impressive.
Starrkโ€™s primary ability in his Ressureccion form is to rapid fire Ceros, he is also among the only Arrancar who can fire one with no stance suggesting complete mastery over one of the Arrancars most destructive abilities.
Starrk is also quietly the fastest Espada in base, effectively teleporting over distances with Sonido.
To understand Starrkโ€™s character we should understand the Espada and their aspects of death which they represent.
Barragan states that the Espada are the living embodiment of their death and their powers reflect this. As a being of pure Solitude all of Starrkโ€™s powers are in attempt to not be alone anymore, physically manifesting entities around himself.
When he meets Aizen he finally gains the hope that he is not alone anymore and Starrk gains allies who can be in his presence.
Starrk chooses not to fight because when he fights all out he must return to his solitude. When he fights he is alone.
As Barragan dies Starrk realised that Aizen was only ever using the Espada as pawns and that all of his friends were going to die with no intervention from their leader.
Whether he fights or not, Starrk will be left alone.
Starrk doesnโ€™t set out for revenge, he doesnโ€™t become bloodlusted or rampage. Starrk simply gives up, he is alone.
Symbolically, Shunsui claims black and slashes the empty space where Starrkโ€™s heart should be.
Starrk was always the strongest Espada, he is just driven by the aspect of death which he embodies to strive to pacifism and not being alone anymore.
Starrk in a vacuum would have been the strongest of the strong.
The ultimate evidence for this lies in the presence of Lilynette. Starrk was so strong that to even stand near others Starrk had to split himself into two separate beings.
Sound familiar?
The other example of this within Bleach is Zaraki and Yachiru. A being with such overwhelming spiritual pressure that is stores itโ€™s soul within an entirely new being.
We only ever see the strongest characters manifest their spirits, Starrk lives with his.
Two beings so fundamentally above their peers that they leave mountains of corpses in their wake before finding their purpose.
Zaraki becomes a Soul Reaper to fight more, Starrk becomes an Espada to fight less.
Starrk vs Shunsui is easily my favourite fight within Bleach and gives a true reflection of the Espada and their character depth beyond Ulquiorra.
Shunsui is the perfect foil to Starrk too, two fighters of completely different dispositions who cannot use their full strength for fear of the solitude it would bring them.
Starrk never did get to see the true solitude that exists within the depths of Shunsuiโ€™s Bankai.
In conclusion, I feel Starrk is often misunderstood as a character and that he is a perfect example of a character bearing immense strength but being held back by their personal beliefs.
He is the perfect example of the Espada being defined by the form of death they embody.
@MosIIey @Reaper_szn @ReioRemms can I get some thoughts? ๐Ÿ‘€
