So here's what you can do :
Get a computer with a fresh OS install (best), or at least, close everything on your work computer and create a new user profile for Brave/Chrome, then install ONLY the @MetaMask plugin from the correct source, THEIR WEBSITE.

Then restore that metamask account from your seed words, select your minting address, and go to Account Details and then select Export Private Key. This is the privkey of your address so the *safest* way to transfer it is to carefully copy it down onto paper.

Then later enter the Private Key into a fresh hardware wallet to import it.
If you make a mistake in copying, your funds wouldn't be lost, you'd just have to repeat the process.
Now on a fresh Metamask install, choose "connect to harware wallet" and you're good.

You can refresh the Metamask installation with a new seed word and password often, every time you use it, if you like.
