An analysis on Gojo:
Gojo is fairly unique in manga in that he breaks the trope of the protagonist and their allies always punching up. From Chapter 1 the Jujutsu Sorcerers have the strongest character in the verse on side which creates an interesting dynamic.
Gojo is a character who defines the series instead of being defined by it, he introduces Yuji to Jujutsu Sorcery and much of the stories exposition comes through him, creating a relatively static character who has surprising depth in his position.
At times Gojo feels more like an event or a force of nature than a character. All of the curses plans revolve around on what they can do before Gojo intervenes and for much of the early story his intervention resolves the issue.
Through his flashback we come to understand how Gojo came to be like this.
Despite being a prodigal youth and immensely strong he is utterly defeated at the hands of Toji and loses the one thing he was tasked to protect.
The loss to Toji and the following year brings about almost a complete change in Gojoโ€™s outlook on the world
Through the aftermath of these events Gojo and Geto drift apart as Getoโ€™s intentions become darker in his hatred of humanity and Gojo is left behind as the protector of a system he doesnโ€™t even fully support.
Following Getoโ€™s death and thus the loss of his best friend Gojo commits to teaching in hope of raising a generation to surpass his strength and remould the stagnant system. Amanai died in his attempts to support Tengen and the system as it was.
Gojoโ€™s strength is simultaneously a symbol of the current system and a means of changing it, a deterrent against the changing tides that is undone by the image of the very best friend he had to kill.
His character is defined by his supreme confidence in his own abilities that he was borderline worshipped for since he was a child, praised for his potential to become something akin to a divine being with the power to warp the laws of reality to his will.
Gojo teeters the line of having a full God Complex as is signified by him proclaiming โ€œI alone am the honoured oneโ€, a phrase used by Buddhist monks upon achieving enlightenment as he evolves during his fight with Toji
Gojo wanders between God Complex and concerned teacher, protector of the system and bringer of change. He exists in a constant balance of conflict just as his own power is constantly balanced by positive and negative energies.
Ultimately, he can be defined by the question Geto poses: are you the strongest because youโ€™re Satoru Gojo, or are you Satoru Gojo because youโ€™re the strongest.
Is Gojo a man who is strong or is he an event of wrath against the balance of curses and sorcerers?
Iโ€™ve likely skimmed over some symbolism and got some things wrong but I hope Iโ€™ve at least nailed down some of the key defining points and moments within his character. Feedback is welcome.
@ItzAbhinavHere Yeah you are right, Iโ€™ll try and get a reference for this also but I believe I read that upon achieving enlightenment you say something similar.
A quick addendum to this tweet until I reference properly myself t.co
