Murtadha Al Zabeedi, a famous Ash’ari scholar & linguist, confesses that the creed of the Salaf is to affirm the Sifat at their apparent meanings.
He says:
He says:
“And a Hand (ie Allah’s Hand) not like the Hands (of the creation) and a finger not like the fingers of the creation. This is the way of the Salaf from the Major Muhaditheen, Fuqaha & Mutakalimeen that they all said:
The two hands (Yadayn), rising upon the throne (Istiwa), the Face (Wajh), Right [hand] (Yameen), The Side (Janb), The Foot (Qadam) and its likes are all real (distinct) attributes of Allah that subsist with His Essence, Glory Be He!
Just as the rest of Ahl Al Sunnah said so for the attributes of Life, Knowledge, Power, Will, Hearing, Seeing, Speech that these are real (distinct) attributes of Allah that subsist with His essence and its due to this that they say
Hearing not like our hearing, Seeing not like our seeing. And a Imam Ahmad said His Two Hands are not like our two hands. But Allah has Two Hands that are real attributes for Him, and he also said the same for the Face [of Allah]
And Abu-l Hasan Al Ash’ari agreed with them on this meaning but for only some of the attributes and not all of the Mutashabihat.”
