🧪Genotyping #inLabs Part 1🧪
Genotyping is how one #gene in the genome of DNA is determined (alleles). It is commonly confused with DNA sequencing, which is when the entire genome is analyzed.
Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) is necessary to amplify the gene of interest./1
Before #PCR, each #DNA sample needs to be treated with a mixture [water, a buffer, salt, free nucleotides, primers, and Taq polymerase (enzyme that synthesizes copies of DNA)]./2
If the same genotype needs to be identified in numerous samples of DNA, this mixture can be made in bulk. This is called a master mix. Once the mixture is added, the samples are ready for the PCR machine./3
