Did this ignoramus really check? Let’s take a look:
Context:
MIAW has a chapter in his book “Mukhtasar Seerat Al Rasool” discussing the apostasy of the people of Bahrain after the death of the Prophet ﷺ
The claim being made:
MIAW brought a baseless report which has not been mentioned by anyone before him.
Attached is the report from Mukhtasar Seerat Al Rasool p.288-289
Response:
MIAW was not the first one to bring this report as has been claimed.
Rather, this report can be found in previous works pertaining to the Maghaazi (battles/wars) of the Prophet ﷺ
First reference:
This report was mentioned by Ibn Hubaysh [504-584AH] in his book Al Ghazawat
Who is Ibn Hubaysh?
Al Dhahabi says in his Siyar A’lam Al Nubala:
islamweb.net
Side-note:
This work is important because it quotes classical source material related to this genre that are missing like Al Riddah by Waqidi, the book of Ya’qub Al Zuhri, and the book Conquests of Iraq from the days of Abu Bakr and until the last days of Umar by Al-Mada’ini
Second reference:
This report was also mentioned by Ibn Hubaysh’s student Abu Rabee Al Kulaa’ee [565-634AH] in his voluminous book Al Iktifaa’ Fi Maghaazi Al Mustafa Wal Khulafaa’ Al Thalaath 2/80
Again here is Abu Rabee’s entry in Al Dhahabi’s Siyar A’lam Al Nubala:
islamweb.net
Side point:
It seems that MIAW’s book is a summary of Abu Rabee’s book or at the very least a primary reference point for MIAW when writing this work...
Hopefully this thread puts to bed accusations that MIAW made this report up and that nobody preceded him in mentioning this
