Of all the 117 players who have qualified for the Tokyo Olympics 2021, 25% are from Haryana and 16% are from Punjab, maybe not surprisingly since sports are an integral part of the culture of these two states.
When looked at the level of districts, we find that the single district of Sonepat in Haryana has more qualified players than 17 states of India. Chennai comes next after Sonepat followed by Jalandhar, Amritsar, Delhi, Jhajjar an Hisar.
Haryana plays the most number of sports - 8, followed by a four way tie among Maharasthra, Kerala, UP and Punjab that participate in 6. Hocket happens to be the most popular sport - played by 11 states (states with just one sport are not shown here), followed by Shooting (9)
