Why Do People In Red Seems More Attractive?
Psychology Behind The Color Red
[THREAD]
The most common explanation seems to be an evolutionary connection between red and sexual receptivity.
Male monkeys are attracted to female monkeys with red swelling on their butts because this swelling indicates a desire for sex and
Monkeys who noticed this red color and became attracted to that monkey would have possessed a reproductive advantage because they would have found a mating opportunity.
Researchers argue that humans inherited a similar mechanism.
There's a really interesting study where researchers collected the saliva of females every week over the course of several months.
They found that during the sections of their menstrual cycle when they were most fertile,
Females were more likely to wear red which is very similar to the same mechanism from monkeys.
Researchers also analyzed dating websites and found that women were more likely to wear red on websites that promoted sex.
So this explains why women in red seem more attractive.
This red color activates a deep evolutionary association that she's interested in having sex.
But what about men who wear red?
In many societies worldwide, red has long been associated with rich and powerful (like "red carpet")
And in non-human primates, red is an indicator of male dominance and is expressed more intensely in alpha males.
Females of these species are more likely to mate with alpha males.
Researchers have found that women view men in red as higher in status, more likely to make money and more likely to climb the social ladder.
And this perceived status, in turn, increased the man's attractiveness.
That’ll all!
