This is an egregious selection cherry-picked of quotes from historical accounts to paint an evil picture of Umayyads.
Mu'awiyyah said, I am the Khalifah of Allah. That proves nothing.... 1/
He has to his credit some 100 in which he acknowledges the Prophethood of Muhammad and narrates his sayings, 13 of which are in the 'Saheehain'.
To this they will say, we doubt the authenticity of these narrations (even though they have been narrated by Isnad)... 2/
But then they will quote al-'Iqd of ibn Abdi Rabbihi (authored a century after Bukhari and Muslim) to attribute to Hajjaj that he wrote in a letter that the Caliph is higher in Allah's sight than his Messengers.
Although, he mentioned no Isnad for it! ...3/
This is basically how these orientalists analyze narrations. Whatever narration fits into their pre-conceived notions is considered reliable, although it may not have any chain of narration to back it up, and author came some 2 to 3 centuries after the incident... 4/
On the other hand they doubt much of the agreed upon corpus of narrations widely reported in the books of Hadith with corroborating chains of narration - just because it doesn't fit their imaginations about that era. They even have a fancy term for it: anachronism... 5/
But the thing is that anyone can claim any thing to be anachronistic per his imagination of how things were back then. There were orientalists who used to say that even the Qur'an is anachronistic, and couldn't have been written except in the second century AH... 6/
But now we have many manuscripts and fragments of the Qur'an which have been carbon-dated to the first century, or just a few decades after the Prophet's demise.
So much for chronistic textual analysis based on person's imaginations of that era! ...7/
In short, there is no objective method for discerning the authenticity of narrations better than that of the
Muhadditheen, esp. the أئمة العلل who combined individual Isnad validation, together with collation of multiple Isnads, plus textual analysis.... 8/
So whoever talks about authenticity of Hadith, fabrication, textual analysis, etc. without having read and understood the books of أئمة العلل like علل الدارقطني and تمييز مسلم is like someone opining about Christianity without having read the four gospels!... /End
Wassalam
