How reliable is Sir Jadunath Sarkar's work as concerns Maratha history ?
Not very reliable.
His knowledge of Persian and English was excellent, Marathi not much. In fact he learnt the language very late.
Consider these snippets from GB Mehendale's work on Shivaji Maharaj
Didn't read documents in Devnagri made available by Rajwade.
It becomes difficult to read even the transliterated old documents WITH an excellent knowledge of modern Marathi, leave alone a new learner.

Another noted historian concurring
Much of the research on Maratha history example the transliterated Peshwa Diaries was in the future.
His deep knowledge of Persian means his books on the Mughals are the best.
But those same sources are not the best for Maratha history.
In later life, he did contribute to bringing out various important compilations, mainly with help from Sardesai. Such as Poona Residency Correspondence.
But these are letter compilations, not " his books" per se.
Those had already been written much earlier.
Do read this book.
Best one available on Chhatrapati Shivaji
We can thus safely conclude that anyone relying ONLY on Jadunath Sarkar for Maratha history is rather short of the correct knowledge.
