Maharaja Hari Singh was one of the most visionary rulers of his times.
He proclaimed, that as a ruler 'Justice is my Religion'.
He introduced laws prohibiting child marriage, compulsory education and opened places of worship for backward sections.

> Maharaja Hari Singh established โ€˜Dhandevi Memorial Fundโ€™ for the marriage of girls.
> He opened all public schools, colleges, and wells to the untouchables in 1931.
> He removed legal disabilities on the marriages of Hindu widows.

> Maharaja initiated modern communication services of telegraph, telephone, and wireless in major towns and cities of the state.
> The Scholarship Selection Board was established to grant scholarship to the deserving students for higher & technical education in India and abroad.
> He constituted two committees, one in 1926 and the other in 1929 to prevent female infanticide. These committees recommended educating the people and pronouncing exemplary punishment for perpetrators.
> He founded the J&K Bank, now known all over the country in 1938.
> During World War-II, he ensured supply of grains like wheat and rice at controlled price in state. A special Price Control Department was also set up for this purpose.
> In 1941, industrial centers and emporiums were opened in Srinagar and later in Jammu.
> Manufacturing units of matchboxes, tents, carpets, woodworks, crafts, tannery goods, silk yarn, food etc. were set up during his regime.
>He introduced Agriculturistโ€™s Relief Act to settle agrarian disputes.
Very few rulers could do as much for their people as Hari Singhji did.
He breathed his last on 26 April, 1961 in Mumbai. Very few rulers of bygone era draws as much respect and love as Maharaja Hari Singh. If he wasn't betrayed by Nehru and Abdullah, whole of J&K would have been a part of India today.
