Double your money instantly with eBay $$$
How to find niche flips
/thread
A question I am asked often: how do you find collectibles and limited items?
There are lots of different ways - this is my favorite.
I get a little distracted, and if you do too, that is great news!
Getting distracted and following your curiosity is one of the best ways to find profitable items.
A tool you want to keep handy is something called a "swipe file."
This is just a location in a place like Evernote or Notion where you can dump info about profitable items.
I keep a lot of info in my brain as I have been gifted with a great memory.
But there is just too much!
Once you have a swipe file, you can start storing and cataloging all of the information you find.
It's a great place to dump things that don't seem valuable at the time, but you can go back later and search to find new opportunities.
Let's pick a starting place and go on an adventure together.
I choose...
creations.mattel.com
They recently released a 1962 MERCEDES-BENZ 220 SE COUPE - selling for roughly double the sale price on eBay now.
This looks like a good place to find unique flips.
The first thing I am doing to do is make a note to check back there!
I will sign up for their newsletter and analyze any new releases they send to me via email.
The next thing I do is visit their Instagram. Here is where the magic happens...
Sure, I could use Instagram to keep up with releases.
Or, I could use Instagram to see who Mattel Creations FOLLOWS.
This is how I discover their network and adjacents.
Anything that looks like a company or an artist and with a blue checkmark, I want to check out.
I am going to then look at who THOSE people follow, ad infinitum.
This is like going down a YouTube "suggested videos" rabbit trail for hours, only for money instead of entertainment
The first account I find is an instant follow - toy news from people who devote all of their time looking for the next big thing.
I've just outsourced all my work, and one of their top posts leads me to another big name.
Mondo is a name a recognize, so I hop over.
It takes me about 20 minutes, but finally I start to find some interesting stuff 👀
So - what could possibly go into the swipe file?
Mondo enamel pins
Tom Whalen
Wolverine
Tom Whalen has done a lot of work with Mondo, and the Limited Edition prints are NEVER reprinted.
This is a great indication to me that popular franchises and artists are low-risk flips.
Whenever I see the name "Tom Whalen" now, my internal alarms will tell me "look closer."
Also, the Mondo site is supported by @LightningATC___ which means I can be virtually guaranteed to cop sought after releases and sell them quickly for presale.
Rabbit trails like this can carry you for hours and hours.
When exploring, take note of:
-Series
-Colors
-Brands
-Characters
-Companies
-Limited Runs
Find a place to dump screenshots of your findings & review them often.
Over time, you build a massive reservoir of knowledge.
You will eventually settle into a niche you know very well.
This will lead to opportunities not only for yourself, but also the opportunity to help other people profit from your knowledge.
Becoming expert in a niche could lead you to create a course or even community.
