The Salaf said that Iman is:
اعتقاد بالقلب
تصديق باللسان
عمل بالجوارح
The Salaf said that actions of the limbs are a pillar of one's Iman meaning that one's Iman is invalid without it
But what is this act that the Salaf said if one doesn't have has an invalid Iman?
Some said it is the Prayer and the pillars of Islam...
But this is inaccurate as there is a Khilaf regarding the one who abandons the Prayer and the other pillars of Islam and it is well known that both sides of the Khilaf are agreed upon to be from Ahl Al Sunnah wa-l Athar.
Others said it's جنس الأعمال (actions as genus)
But this is also inaccurate as جنس الأعمال is an abstract that only exists in the mind
What is concrete is particular actions (آحاد الأعمال)
Just like how humanity is an abstract but specific humans like me and you are particular
The reality is that the action of the limb that is seen by the Salaf as a pillar of one's Iman i.e. if it is not found one's Iman is invalid is that one must come with an obligation from the outward obligatory acts obligated by the Legislator.
Only when someone completely abandons every single obligatory act of the limbs obligated by the Legislator whilst having the ability to perform these obligations do they become a Kafir whose Iman is invalid as they have invalidated this third pillar of عمل بالجوارح
But if someone leaves off most of the obligatory acts of the limbs obligated by the Legislator, then this person is still a Muslim and not a Kafir but his Iman is incomplete of course but NOT invalid.
This is the Dhaabit (canon/general rule) when it comes to عمل الجوارح
Ibn Taymiyyah highlights this in his book Al Iman Al Awsat:
And Allah knows best
