Imam Abu Hamid Al-Isfarayini stance against the Ashairah and his Tabdee of Aba Bakar Al-Baqilani.
Imam Abu Hamid Al-Isfarayini who was the Imam of the Shafi'iyyah in the 4th century and the biggest Faqeeh of the Madhab in his time, would disassociate himself from the Ashairah and would harshly rebuke their scholars as deviants such as Al-Baqilani.
Imam Shaykh Abu Al-Hassan Al-Karji Al-Shafi'i said:
( كان الشيخ أبو حامد الاسفراييني شديد الإنكار على الباقلاني وأصحاب الكلام )
وقال أيضاً : ( كان الشيخ أبو حامد الاسفراييني إمام الأئمة الذي طبق الأرض علماً وأصحاباً إذا سعى إلى الجمعة من - قطيعة الكرخ - إلى الجامع

المنصور يدخل الرباط المعروف - بالروزي - المحاذي للجامع ، ويُقبل على من حضر ويقول : ( اشهدوا عليَّ بأنَّ القرآن كلام الله غير مخلوق كما قال الإمام أحمد بن حنبل لا كما يقول الباقلاني ) ويتكرر ذلك منه ، فقيل له في ذلك ؛ فقال
(حتى تنتشر في الناس وفي أهل البلاد ويشيع الخبرُ في أهل البلاد أني بريءٌ مما هم عليه – يعني الأشعرية – وبريءٌ من مذهب الباقلاني ؛ فإن جماعة من المتفقهة الغُرباء يدخلون على الباقلاني خفيةً ويقرؤن عليه فيعتنون بمذهبه
فإذا رجعوا إلى بلادهم أظهروا بدعتهم لامحالة ، فيظن ظانٌ أنهم مني تعلموه وأنا قُلته ، وأنا بريءٌ من مذهب الباقلاني

Imam Shaykh Abu Al-Hassan Al-Karji Al-Shafi'i said:
Shaykh Abu Hamid Al-Isfarayini would harshly rebuke Al-Baqilani (Imam of the Ashairah) and the companions of Kalam

He would go to the Mosque for Jummah he would turn to those who attended the Mosque and say to them, "bear witness upon me that the Quran is the uncreated speech of Allah like Imam Ahmad said not like Al-Baqilani says" (meaning Al-Baqilani believed the Quran is created)
This testimony of Imam Al-Isfarayini was repeated and spread and he was informed about this, so he said "until it spreads among the people and the people of the land and this news is common among the people of the land
that I am free from what they are (i.e the Ashairah) and disassociate from the Methodology of Al-Baqilani,
So a group of strangers enter Al-Baqilani in secret and profess to follow his Methodology, and when they return to their land they make apparent their Bidah, so I thought that they might think they're from me and that I taught them, but I'm free from the Aqeedah of Al-Baqilani".
Abu Bakar Al-Baqilani was so humiliated and afraid of Imam Al-Isfarayini, to the extent that he would hide behind a hijab and hide himself when going to the toilet.

وذكر الأمام الكرجي : ( أن أبا بكر الباقلاني إذا خرج إلى الحمام يتبرقع خوفاً من الشيخ أبي حامد الاسفراييني لكي لا يراه )
Imam Al-Karji mentions
That if Aba Bakar Al-Baqilani left to go to the toilet he would wear a hijab in fear of Shaykh Abi Hamid Al-Isfarayini not to see him.

Also interesting to see Imam Al-Isfarayini free himself from Al-Baqilani and the Ashari understanding on the issue of khalq Al-Quran and say he agrees with Imam Ahmad, this is more evidence that the early Imams of the Shafi'iyyah were Athari and had nothing to do with Ashairah.
