The Western pushback against wokeism is partly rooted in ethnocentrism and white supremacy. The ‘progressive’ left claims a mantle of higher morality by inverting their society’s power structure which traditionally favored the majority. Both dubiously project their biases abroad.
Since India suffered the depredations of colonialism and foreign invasion, indigenous arguments against the neomarxist left are vastly different from what we see overseas. India’s spectrum from conservatives to center-left liberals place civilizational realities at the forefront.
The resistance and survival of India’s civilization to a large extent defines its exceptionalism. Defending liberal values always involved a fundamentally democratic, debate-centric approach to societal and cultural reform. These processes can take decades, sometimes centuries.
Neither will this be understood, nor its positives be appreciated. Societal wrongs are taken out of the context of history and the long time frames Indian civilization works with. Western conservatives and liberals then create strawman arguments to berate and assume supremacy.
