I’ve been tweeting about a concept I like to call “business cycles” lately
Here’s a high-level overview explanation:
There are patterns in business that last a few months at a time, throughout our years in the game, those patterns will show up multiple times.

There are patterns in business that last a few months at a time, throughout our years in the game, those patterns will show up multiple times.
If we can navigate through them easily, we are unstoppable
You can read more about it here

Today’s thread will explain another pattern within one of our cycles of business.
Mastering a monetizable skill.
On our business journey, we have to master multiple new skills
In eCom that can be branding, hunting for products, paid media

As an agency owner that can be delivering results, the art of closing, retention
Once you master one skill, there will almost always be a new complementary skill on your path

What I want to open your mind to today is a simple pattern that you have already seen before but aren’t leveraging to its full potential.
It’s called iterations.
Let’s take the agency model for example. You own an email marketing agency for DTC brands

You are starting off in the space and want to know where to start - you have an offer in mind + branding, now it’s about truly mastering the skill
Your first step is to define what it takes to master the skill - what are the overall topics within that skill that are important
Your first step is to define what it takes to master the skill - what are the overall topics within that skill that are important
In email marketing that will be
> Learning the email platform
> Flows & campaigns
> Lead generation
> Solving unique scenarios
So you begin the skill - you watch videos on YouTube to learn how to use the email platform

You read posts in forums like theutopia.io
But you notice there are a few terms that are confusing you like “segments, lists, campaigns, flows”
So what do most do here? They give up and say it’s too difficult. To avoid this from happening, check out the tip below

Tip number 1: Connecting the dots
While you are reading about one overall topic in the skill you are learning, if you come up with a new term you are confused about, write it down immediately, finish your current lesson then learn about that next.

It’s called connecting the dots.
Mastery is bridging the knowledge you have right now to newer knowledge and seeing things from a bigger picture. It becomes easier to solve problems and come to solutions rapidly.

Tip number 2: Riding the momentous wave
When you begin connecting the dots, you go from a state of “I don’t know where to start” to “Ok, this is beginning to make some sense now”
This is when momentum is beginning to build and you want to ride it.
When you begin connecting the dots, you go from a state of “I don’t know where to start” to “Ok, this is beginning to make some sense now”
This is when momentum is beginning to build and you want to ride it.
There are 2 ways to keep this momentum
A. Conscious consistency - set a direct time every single day to learn about the skill but with a specific objective in mind.
Make this a non negotiable part of your day. Remember the list of questions you asked yourself from tip 1?

Those are the questions you want to get answered the next day. You are finding points that are complementary to each other which helps you connect the dots easier. You are learning purposefully.
You are building foundational knowledge.

B. Self hypnosis - mentally reward yourself by smiling or speaking to yourself about how grateful you are for this progress. I personally hated working, but I convinced myself I love the feeling of an accomplished day - this same concept should be applied when learning.
Tip number 3: Iterations
You will never feel ready to actually start practicing on live accounts.
The state you are in now is like learning the stock market but never buying or selling with real money
You will never feel ready to actually start practicing on live accounts.
The state you are in now is like learning the stock market but never buying or selling with real money
Or watching cooking meals and memorizing recipes but never actually making a meal
Or in this case, learning about email marketing but never actively trying it on a real email provider account
The iterations step is the next scariest for most because they don’t want to f up.

The iterations step is the next scariest for most because they don’t want to f up.
But here’s the truth -> you will f up.
It’s inevitable - and this leads into my last point which is being conscious of the f ups and fixing them.

Think about it - let’s hop back to the cooking example.
Yesterday I decided to make a steak, I learnt about the ingredients I love, how much seasoning to add, how to create side dishes and I gave it a go for the first time.
Yesterday I decided to make a steak, I learnt about the ingredients I love, how much seasoning to add, how to create side dishes and I gave it a go for the first time.
I tasted it, the seasoning was delicious but the steak was too well done.let’s hop back to the cooking example.
Now at this point, I took note of what I did wrong and I will improve it tomorrow.
This is it. There is no magic solution - you have to be conscious of what you have to reiterate on the next day.
The pattern goes like this
A. You make the intention to master a new skill

The pattern goes like this
A. You make the intention to master a new skill
B. You begin learning about it and filling in the blanks to connect the dots
C. You begin to practice it and notice you do something that can be improved
D. You improve it next time
E. And notice there is something else to improve
F. Then you just repeat from step B

Each of these tips holds its own importance and weight - many of you are stuck on the first part - I know this because I was there once too
