Choosing a haircut that suits the shape of your face.
~Thread~
Your haircut can either make or break how good you actually look.
In this thread, you will learn how to determine your faceshape to pick the right haircut for you.
The goal with this is to make your face more even and symmetrical with the right haircut.
In order to determine your face shape you will need :
- A flexible measuring tape
- A piece of paper or a notebook
Now, take the following measurements, and write them down. 👇
1. Forehead: Pull the tape measure from the peak of one eyebrow arch to the peak of the opposite arch.
2. Cheekbones: Measure across your upper cheeks, starting and ending at the sharp bump below the outer corner of each eye.
3. Jawline: Measure your jaw across your face at its widest point (about an inch down from your ears).
4. Face length: Measure from the center of your hairline to the tip of your chin.
Round : Cheekbones and face length have a similar measurement. They are larger than forehead and jawline, which also have a similar measurement. The angle of the jaw is soft.
Square : All measurements are fairly similar. The angle of the jaw is sharp.
Rectangular/Oblong : Face length is largest. Forehead, cheekbones, and jawline are similar in size.
Diamond : Face length is largest. Then, in descending order: cheekbones, forehead, and smallest is jawline. The chin is pointed.
Triangular : Large jawline, smaller cheekbones, and smallest forehead. Face can be any length.
Oval : Face length is larger than the width of the cheekbones, and forehead is larger than the jawline. The angle of the jaw is rounded.
Now that you know what you're working with, let's see what suits you.
Oval
This one is pretty universal, you should simply have shorter sides, shorter back, and a longer top.
You should also avoid fringes, as any hair falling on your forehead will make you look less masculine.
Rectangular/Oblong
You don't want to make your face longer than it already is, so go for sides and back that are a bit longer.
Square
Avoid having longer sides as that will make your face look much bigger than it actually is.
Round
The goal here is to create angles, so go for shorter sides (but not too short), and a longer top to make your face look longer.
Triangular
Get a lot of volume on top, with fuller sides to make your face look more symmetrical.
Diamond
Get something that elongates the forehead, like a long fringe or a quiff.
