12 lessons I will teach my children early in life.
And I wish I knew sooner.
(A Thread)👇🏽
1. No one has it all figured it.
Life is a constant learning process.
You will make mistakes, and that is ok. Learn from them.
2. Being nice is overrated.
- be kind
- be fair
- be understanding
People will take advantage of you if you are too “nice.”
3. Good or bad, you can learn from everyone.
- Every person you meet will teach you something.
- It's your job to figure out the lesson.
4. Unlearning is just as important as learning.
- You will have to let go of old beliefs and adjust in life.
- Learn to let go of beliefs that no longer serve you.
5. Own up to your mistakes. Do what you say you’ll do.
Be accountable for your actions and words. Be honest and reliable.
6. No one prepares you to watch your parents grow old.
- one of life's hardest tests. Enjoy family as much as possible.
7. One of the most important decisions you’ll ever make is who you have children with. Choose wisely.
- Please think long and hard about this one. Trust your intuition.
8. One day, you will need to be forgiven, so learn to forgive others.
- No one is perfect. Life is hard. Have empathy.
9. No one can read your mind. Speak up and say how you feel.
- Always speak your mind and let your feelings be known.
10. Time is the most important thing you have, never waste it.
- Have boundaries. Learn to say, “No.”
11. You can't pour from an empty cup. Take care of yourself first.
- the most important relationship is the one you have with yourself.
12. Embrace all of your emotions.
Never:
- ignore them
- hide them
- mask them
Embrace your emotions. Life is meant to be felt.
