πŸ§•πŸ½Why support female Islamic scholarship?
3 reasons I highlighted in a talk today:🧡
1. Sisters can bring unique and enriching perspectives. Their talent and insights can further benefit our community. They may see certain challenges that may be missed by brothers.
2. Investing in sisters is investing in the community. Their knowledge benefits their families and is often passed on to other women and children at the grass roots level. Often women feel more comfortable approaching a sister for certain types of advice and issues.
3. Female scholars could provide the antidote to dominant voices in Islam/women’s rights space in academia that undermine the normative Islamic tradition and positions.
They could provide the counter narrative to feminist discourse in the Islamic studies/law literature.
Good scholarship is important.
