A few months ago I shared the session plans I submitted to the Scottish Football Association for one of my UEFA C License tasks.
After speaking with several coaches, I have modified and improved the sessions.
Here is a short thread that shows the updated plansπŸ‘‡
You can review my previous sessions here and see for yourself where the changes were made:
Defending:
I let the players do 1v1s before moving them into an organized pressing game.
I want my players to understand how much/little space they give their opponents based on their own strengths/limitations.
Here you can make coaching points for how you want to defend.
I made the pressing game a "numbers down" game to emphasize angled runs & defending two players at once.
The third SSG has defenders play a pass into one of three goals, instead of carrying into a zone like my previous session plan. The goals represent forwards in transition.
Finishing:
I got some comments about making the first activity unopposed. Without knowing the ability of the players, I wanted to make it unopposed so that we could work on technique, attack with our front 3 while still making it fun to participate in.
The second SSG still allows for lots of shots bc it's a small play area, but it also allows for a transition after "x" goals are scored via two teams swapping out.
This would create natural overloads and space, removing the need for my "wide goals".
I removed the "wide goals" or outside goals from the original session.
These wide goals were, for lack of better term, different for the sake of being different.
Moving With the Ball
I actually interpreted this as a team physically moving with the ball in possession, and not a dribbling theme.
So, the whole session was scrapped and redone.
1v1 game works on close control with desired part of the foot.
4v4+1 game works on close control, limits passes & creates a transition every time a goal is scored.
3v3 games emphasize the use of a certain part of the foot (sole, outside/inside) that was worked on in session.
These sessions are done under the assumption you are working with 16-18 players per session.
I understand that for the vast majority of coaches (myself included) either have too many or not enough players at the sessions so the plans may not always work as intended.
My "training philosophy" is largely based around small themed games, giving the players hundreds of ball actions per session.
Simply put, the more the player has the ball, the more opportunities they have to get better. I hope that's clear in these session plans.
No session is perfect, and I'm sure I'll find ways to improve these sessions in time and with more experience.
Please feel free to use them and tell me how they go, or alternatively, let me know how I could have done better and improved these sessions.
I want to thank @YiannisTsala,@TristanTCoach,@RCfootballcoach, @coachchrismcl,@andyrose_5 & @aldo_ventresca for their insight!
Thank you for taking the time to review my first batch of sessions. When I become CMNT Head Coach in 2036, I will be looking at you all for help πŸ˜‰
@aldo_ventresca πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ cannot believe I've let this slip. I'll be in touch Aldo!
