Kindly compare and contrast the coverage of India’s covid surge earlier this year to the coverage of the current covid spike in Europe, the worst since the panny began. See any dead bodies? Any war correspondents storming hospitals? A narrative of utter chaos and catastrophe?
All I’ve seen is riots in Netherlands. Not a single dead body. And you won’t see one. That dignity is afforded only to the European. It’s not even a “western”-wide thing. Think how often you see snuff films of Black men getting murdered in cold blood from the US.
Will countries place 8 month travel bans on Germans or Austrians? Not a chance. Always remember, the “ground reality” doesn’t matter. Only images do. Nowhere more do “first impressions last” than image making. The first image to the finish line wins.
If image making was formidable in the global South, we would be laying waste to Europe’s covid management and convincing the world of its diseased nature to interrupt its holiday and business travel plans. For god sake man, this is how you compete! Give as good as you get.
Look at this absolutely puppy dog coverage. “Very worried” and “storm clouds.” No @clarissaward storming hospitals in Vienna. Meanwhile all India has is, “we doing ok!” Go on the offensive. This is a fight to the death and we are sipping hot tea while they load an RPG.
And why haven’t the Chinese gone a major offensive declaring Europe’s vaccines as useless? I swear to every worshipped deity, everyone outside the west is so nauseatingly timid when an image making opportunity presents itself that there is no hope. I’m about to hand out slaps 👋🏽
Any society that isn’t subsidizing its image making industries and giving endless scholarships to the best and brightest to churn out formidable storytellers and image makers to go out there and wage war in the battleplace of ideas and images is a failure.
