Iโ€™m up so I decided to do a thread on African American Foods and African Foods that are Related.

Benne Seeds comes from Beni in Malinke , brought to the south by enslaved Africans and used to thicken soups in the lowcountry (SC/ Georgia/ Florida)

Watermelon ( AA & W. Africa)
Some of these foods are little known Soul Foods that some people donโ€™t know about so I encourage people to learn about them . If I missed anything let me know and if you think something is incorrect lmk too.
Philadelphia Pepper Pot (AA) x Pepper Soup (Nigeria)
Hush Puppies (AA) x Puff Puff (Nigeria)
Palmetto Wine( AA) x Palm Wine (West Africa)
Enslaved Africans in South Carolina used to tap Palmetto trees for Palm Cabbage to ferment to make a wine. There is one business that has colonized and capitalized on it that is still running in SC
Jambalaya (AA) x Shrimp Jollof (Ghana)
This is more of a question . My family eats this . We use leftover rice, & add milk, and sugar with cinnamon . I think I had seen Thee Sudani post about eating this before and a lot of Africans eat it across the continent . Some people call it rice pudding. Any yโ€™all eat this?
Boiled Peanuts and Roasted Peanuts. Black people brought peanuts to the United States along with our indigenous names for them. Goober and Pinder both coming from the Central African words Nguba and Mpinda
This maybe a lil controversial and not exactly cuisine but Red and White Clay is eaten by African Americans as a snack , especially if you are pregnant you are said to crave it . There are many native words for white clay in W. Africa and it is eaten for the same reasons
This thread is not for NonBlacks , it is for the Black Diaspora. So I donโ€™t care what yโ€™all eat cuz ykw that means and how you got it ? Oh
