Absolutely gorgeous painting of meeting before the Battle of Bagru based on Sujan Charitra, the Jat history of Sujan Singh better known as Surajmal. This painting shows Surajmal meeting with his liege Maharaja Ishwari Singh of Jaipur. The meeting took place
in Chandra Mahal of Jaipur. Ishwari Singh is shown as commanding figure on the left and Surajmal is listening to his command. The magnificent pink wall of Jaipur city is shown beautifully. On the right side is both the army of Surajmal within Jaipur state army.
The gorgeous Pachranga flag of Jaipur is visible in hands of one of the bearer in top. Surajmal remained faithful vassal of Jaipur state, he was considered by the great Sawai Jai Singh as his son. During battle of Bagru, Jat raja Surajmal's attack on Holkar was one of
the main turning point of the battle. His bravery in the battle fighting under Kachhwaha banner is described beautifully by Poet Suryamall Mishran in this doha
"सह्यो भलैंही जट्टनी, जाय अरिष्ट अरिष्ट ॥.
जिहि जाठर रविमल्ल हुव, आमेरनको इष्ट II"
Meaning: Jatni didn't bear the childbirth pain for vain, from her womb born Surajmal who became Amer's defender.
Except for short sour period during reign of Jawahar Singh, Kachhwahas had always had soft spot for Jats of Bharatpur from the time of Badan Singh till British times.
PS: Pink walls of Jaipur city also dismiss the myth that Jaipur was painted in pink during the visit of Prince of Wales.
PPS: One of the minute details of the painting is smallpox marks on the face of Surajmal.
