⚠️Here are 12 things you can do to avoid being scammed ⚠️
1 - Turn off your Discord DMs
For your sanity, turn off your Discord DMs. From personal experience, most will be spam or scams. Only turn them back on on an as needed basis.

2 - Watch out for fake accounts
It’s super easy to create a fake account to impersonate an individual or project. Always verify the Twitter handle or Discord ID. Check the engagement levels on each. If it seems fishy or too good to be true, it probably is.

3 - Never screenshare with strangers
You might accidentally share something private like a QR code or login credentials. Even worse, the scammer can take control of your screen and steal your info themselves. Never download any screen share software from an unknown source.

4 - Look out for fake minting sites (+ links in Twitter Replies)
These sites will look identical to the real ones, but when you try to mint, your wallet will be wiped. Always get links from the project’s official twitter in their bio. The one with actual followers and engagement

4 (cont.) - Sometimes when a project announces their mint, scammers will create fake accounts that look exactly like the projects’ and reply to their post pretending to be them. Always think twice before clicking a link in a Twitter reply.
5 - Be wary of counterfeit NFT stores and marketplaces
Scammers will create fake websites that look identical to Opensea, Rarible, or other marketplaces. They’ll use domains that look similar with minor misspellings or domain endings (.com vs .io).

6 - Double check that you are buying the real thing
Scammers will create identical copies of a popular collection and trick you into buying. Before making any purchase, check that you are buying from the real collection.

7 - Be careful when Googling project links
There have been instances where scammers rank fake minting websites on Google. Always double check the link or just grab the site from their Twitter bio.

8 - Look out for Phishing Links (NEVER SHARE YOUR SEED PHRASE!!!)
This one is obvious, but worth a reminder in case anyone reading is new. If anyone, any site, or any link asks you for your seed phrase, private keys, or wallet password, IT IS A SCAM.

9 - Keep your most valuable items in cold storage
If you’re new to this, cold storage = a hardware wallet like Ledger. Hot storage = software wallets connected to the internet like Metamask. Keep your most valuable items cold. Don’t hold all your NFTs or crypto in one wallet.

10 - Keep your wallet on a browser you don’t use to browse the web
Some sites will auto prompt you to connect your wallet. If you’re not careful you may connect to a malicious site. Best way to avoid an accident is to keep your wallet on a browser you don’t use to browse the web

11 - Watch out for Rug Pulls
Always research and verify projects before buying. Do they have real followers? If they have a ton of followers or members but very low engagement then they might be faking it with bots or fake accounts. Check out their team. Are they credible?

12 - Watch out for random Discord Server Announcements
Server gets hacked all the time - Admin roles get compromised. Scammers post announcement claiming stealth mint or something similar. If announcement is random, has typos, or uses odd language tones, it’s probably a scam.

It’s an exciting time to be in NFTs, but it can also feel like walking through a minefield.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
In fact, it’s one of the main problems we’re focused on tackling as we build out Metalink...

We want to create a new digital space where NFT collectors can hang out without having to look behind their shoulder at every turn...
It’s why we’re rolling out collections slowly to make sure we iron out the kinks and optimize our code...
It’s why we built gated chats based on wallet holdings 🔐…
It’s why we created verified NFT profiles where you can see what someone owns within the chat…

And it’s why yesterday, on the 6th day of Metalink, we’re rolled out Message Requests to add an extra layer of defense against potential scams and spam.
