Lets see the repeated claim, Gujaro k devnarayana ki katha aur "unke vansh" me paida huye Gujjar samrat Prithviraj Chauhan aur someone called Raja Sawai Bhoj chauhan. Kon the ye sab aur kya hai inka relations aur kyu claim karte firte hai gujjar Prithviraj ko iske base par
The whole basis is story of Devnarayan, the gujjar god, he is worshipped by gujjars and his story is sung by the gujjar priests (bhopas). Story is little complex with different avataras of different gods. I am highly simplifying the story below. Still it is a long story.
So in Sat-Yuga, Bhagwan Shiva does some bad deeds when he ate risis who were his followers bcz he was hungry and wanted to repent his sins. So Brahmaji says he will have to take birth on earth and have to give his body to these risis who will be born as 24 sons of a single father
Fast forward to Kali-Yuga. There was a king of Ajmer called Raja Bisaldev (12th century ruler Vigraharaj Chauhan of Ajmer was also called Bisaldev, he was uncle of Prithviraj Chauhan, whether the story meant this king is not clear). In his kingdom a lion terrorised
the people, so one brave Rajput named Hari Ram, takes the challenge and kill the lion. (Remember this Hari Ram is called Rajput by their own story). This rajput with lion's hide on his shoulders goes to clean himself at nearby Pushkar lake, Where a brahmin girl
named Lila also came to bath. Lila had taken oath to never look at a man. But she accidentally see that rajput with lion's head over his head in the reflection of water. With this single look, her oath is broken and she conceive a child, so she asks the Rajput
to marry her, but he says no. When Raja Bisaldev come to know about this, he orders Hari to marry Lila. They both marry and their son is born as half lion and half human. Hence he was named Bagh-rawat. As he was frightening, he was abandoned by his parents and was later adopted
by the king. He always hid from other people and lived in a garden attended by his brahmin cooks. The brahmin cooks invites some girls to swing in the garden where without their knowledge they were circumambulated around Baghrawat while brahmin recited marriage rites.
So this way 12 girls who were all of diff castes got married to that half lion half human, called Baghrawat (Bagarawat). With every woman he had 2 boys, so totalling 24 boys. The most courageous of these 24 boy was Sawai Bhoj who was born of Rajput mother.
Although all of the sons of Bagarawat were born of diff castes, they all took wife from gujjar castes after they came of age. Some time later they befriend a Rajput chief of Ran city and was called Rana. Both rana and sons of Bagrawat became dharam bhai.
Although sawai bhoj was married, he fancy a diff girl. They scheme to get her married to their dharam bhai the Rana but instead, get her married to sawai bhoj in pre planned way. Rana gets angry and kill all of these 24 Baghrawat brothers. All of their wives except
wife of Sawai Bhoj whose name was Sadu mata, commits Sati with husbands. Sadu mata instead do tapasya and "Bhagwan Devnarayan" is born as her child. This child later became the celebrated god of gujjars. He tried to take revenge from Rana, who killed his father and uncles.
He in a battle kills Rana by cutting his head off but Rana get revived. His title of Rana was taken away by Devnarayan and he was given different title, "Sisodia" (i.e. Sis diya). Devnarayan ask the Sisodia chief to establish new city of Udaipur, after Devnarayan's own name (Ud).
Later Devnarayan does more miracles in his life time and was started being worshipped. He then leave for heaven in his chariot after fixing worship and priests etc.
Now analyse the story from historical point of view. Bisaldeo was a real king of ajmer in 12th century. Ranas of mewar and later Sisodias are also historical. But the event mentioned in the story is not found in any historical document whatsoever, establishment of
Sisodia line after Guhilots is due to Khilji invasion and not due to Devnarayan's defeating Rana. Devnarayan as a historical person is not mentioned anywhere. Most significant event is transfer of capital from Chittor to new city of Udaipur was carried out during Maharana
Udai Singh's time (father of Maharana Pratap) i.e. in 16th century, so timeline of story is also doubtful. Maybe the story was not as old as it is claimed of the time of Bisaldeo but of later date even after 16th century or maybe there have been mixing of stories
later on, who knows. But whatever the historicity, the main element of the Devnarayan katha which is the oldest story of gujjar origin and it is their own story, their own heroes, sung by their own people since long time, does not say what gujjars are claiming now.
This story itself says they are descendants of Rajput father and Brahmin mother from whom Baghrawat was born. And that Rajput was also a common rajput, he had no relation with King of Ajmer, Bisaldeo. From Baghrawat's family was born their own local god Devnarayan.
So I request gujjars to properly read or hear their own Bhagwan ki katha, who were Baghrawats in whose family Devnarayan was born. Sirf story me king of ajmer sun kar PRC hamare Chauhan hamare hai mat karo. Political reasons se log aapko bhadkate hai aur do community
ke bich me darar daalne ki koshish kar rahe hai. Common gujjaro ko inke changul me nahi padna chahiye, jo padh likh nahi sakte, Devnarayan ki phad padhte h bhope unke, programme vagerah hota hai, waha jakar ek baar suno puri kahani aur kya history aapke ancestor ne likhi hai.
PS: Here is a simplified version of the family tree of Gujjar Lok Devta Devnarayan, I made for better understanding.
