The Committee Resolves to adopt the Saka Era for the Indian Calender.
In 1955, it was decided that a calender commemorating Kanishka in 78 AD was to be adopted.
Adoption of the Saka Era in context of the mediaeval age, when Hindu calenders vanished and everywhere the Hijri was adopted.
The same committee also recommended what would become Indian Standard Time.
Suggestions were Ujjain and Jubalpur (and also Benares). Eventually we settled on Prayagraj for IST.
The Committee had to work through 60 different Panchangs to arrive at a conclusion.
