Why my emails NEVER go to spam
(thread)
I've sent over 50 million emails both cold & warm
and my emails NEVER go to spam
We actually finesse the promotions tab often too
Here's how
To understand how to prevent spam you need to understand
Domain reputation & IP reputation
Put simply
How is your sending domain & IP rated by ISP's
(gmail, hotmail etc)
The higher your rating
The better your 'deliverability'
So, how to increase the score?
1) technical setup
Setup your domain with
> SPF
> DKIM
> DMARC
> A custom tracking domain
(sub domain from the same domain)
If you don't know how to set this up
GOOGLE is your friend
No need to understand how it works
Just do it
2) sending track record
ISP's measure the following ratio's:
> Opens
> Clicks
> Reply
> Click/open
> Unsubs
Rule of thumb:
The higher the better
+
Replies > Clicks > Opens
In terms of value
&
Warm email: Kill off old/dead subscribers often
Cold email : Stop campaigns with low open rates (sub 65%)
Side note:
This is why if you have an old list (opt-in) you need to activate
You send to 1/20 of the list and add in 1/20 per campaign + only last openers + clickers
Trick the algo so you don't get blacklisted
3) email contents
Avoid using spammy words
Especially in your subject line
"Claim your free bitcoin %FIRSTNAME%"
Isn't going to score well
Use common sense
Overall plain text emails are easier to inbox in primary than html templates since most newsletters are not plain text
BUT
One special note....
When sending cold email
Don't be afraid to use links or images
IF you set up your tracking domain correctly
they
DON't affect your deliverability
This is a myth
Why?
Because links and images are hosted and tracked/masked with your custom tracking domain
So if your domain rep is good
Your links and images don't matter
As for IP reputation
This is all about 'where' did the email come from
If some IP (server) is sending loads of shit as a spammer but switching domains
They'll still get burned because of this
When you're using klaviyo or mailchimp
You're in an 'IP pool"
Meaning you share this part of your reputation with other senders
This is why if you're a big sender you request a 'dedicated IP'
Now you don't share responsibility for the IP health with others
Just you
On the same note
For cold email ONLY use Google Workspace or office 365
Then you're set.
DONT use some random hosting companie's email service
Their IPS are SHIT and they don't ban spammers to keep IPs healthy
That's IP health 101
Final bonus for Cold Email:
Use an email warm services like lemwarm to trick the algo into high engagement
That's it
This is how I send all 50+ million emails
RIGHT TO the inbox
