Try this technique to have absolute control over the direction of your life
Thread
I am talking about journaling
Here are the key benefits:
1. Keep track of your progress
2. Process suppressed feelings
3. Identify areas of improvement
4. Increase gratitude
5. Savor the small beauties of life
6. Capture learnings
7. Put your goals on paper
But where to start?
Key things to include in your journal
1. Gratitude list
List down all the things you are grateful for. Be it as small as a sunny day or as big as the birth of your child.
Look around and you will find 100 things you can be grateful for
2. Summary and highlight of the day
Write down everything that happened in the day. The meetings you had, the work you did, people you talked to, everything
Pick out one event as the highlight of the day. Pick anything you feel is important and add to the journal
3. Track your Goals
Review your long term and short term goals. Add new goals, modify existing ones or just chuck the unimportant ones. Update the progress and see whether you are on track.
This will really help you to keep a tab on your direction
4. Celebrate your wins
Don't wait for the big wins. Celebrate every win, no matter how small.
Did that 6-figure client responded to your cold mail? You were able to fix the wash basin? Go ahead and capture it in journal
5. Areas of improvement
Be completely honest with yourself here. It is in your best interest. Write down wherever you feel you need to improve
Diet control, time management, learning coding, time with family, just write it
6. Capture learnings
You either win or you learn. While this is true, capture the learnings from your wins as well.
This will help you to replicate your performance consistently
7. Brain dump
The most important part of your journal.
Write whatever is going on in your mind: your feelings, frustrations, resentments, doubts, worries, everything.
You would be surprised how once you put it on paper, you will get better mental clarity to deal with the issues
In summary, these should be the broad parts of your journal
1. Gratitude journal
2. Happenings of the day
3. Goal tracking
4. Your wins
5. Improvement areas
6. Learnings
7. Brain dump
