>50% of new copywriters quit in their first year.
And 99% find it hard to hit $10K/mo even after writing for years.
Here are 10 mistakes that may be affecting your earnings as a copywriter
And how you can fix them👇
#1: “It’s a money-making scheme”
When copywriting gurus sell you a course…
They tell you you that copywriting can make you a millionaire.
It's true.
But what they didn't tell you is that you don't become a millionaire on the first day.
Stop looking for the perfect first client.
And demanding $10K from a client when you have no social proof…
No case studies…
And nothing to show that they'll get a good return on their investment.
The more you search for the perfect client… The more time you waste.
#2: You landed your first client! So no more reps
You started earning…
And things are looking shweeet!
Then your ego begins to grow like shoulder pads.
And you feel you’re now better than Ogilvy.
You stop studying ads daily…
Stop learning about human psychology…
Stop improving your mindset…
Stop coming up with new ideas daily…
And stop honing your writing skill.
You can only keep your skill fresh
By getting your daily reps in.
Even if you've gotten your first 5 clients…
You’re still a beginner.
You don't know it all.
Do the daily work!
#3: Can't sell yourself. So you settle.
After learning copywriting…
You decide to head outside to find clients.
First month… No client
Second month… No client
Third month… “It's time to quit and find something else.”
Have you tried reaching out to your network?
Do you have a solid offer?
Did you ask for performance-based pay to reduce the risk clients take on you?
Did you offer to work for free?
You haven't exhausted your options.
Keep learning and don't quit.
#4: You come from a place of scarcity.
It's one thing to get started with copywriting by earning small
And another to remain in the small league because you can't imagine charging thousands of dollars
And you're scared clients will run away from you if you bid a ‘crazy’ price.
After getting enough proof that you copy converts...
Start charging for the value you provide.
Switch that mindset from scarcity to abundance.
And you'll see how much your life changes.
#5: Your investment in self stops just after you start earning.
You bought books, courses, or coaching to get started as a copywriter...
And they helped.
You started earning.
But as your earnings grew, you stopped investing in self…
Stopped paying for courses and coaching.
What happens after this…
Is that you begin to experience stagnancy…
Because you don't have the facilities to get you to the next stage of your career.
A percentage of your earnings should be dedicated to self improvement.
Because your finances only grow when you grow.
#6: You’re a lone ranger. Bedroom baby.
I used to hide from the world.
Did all my work in my room (office 😏)
And just live my life on a low.
No connections. Nothing!
But things changed when I decided to create an online profile…
On Twitter alone…
I've met lifelong friends.
Some write copy. Some run other profitable businesses
Connections like this open doors you never knew existed.
More work opportunities.
Better ideas. More money.
A better life…
That's it! Get out of your room!
#7: You fear failure like the plague.
You will fail.
Not once.
Not twice.
You will fail to close clients.
And sometimes… your copy will fail to convert.
What happens after that?
Should you quit to try something you won’t fail at?
No.
Learn from your mistakes instead.
If you keep quitting every time you fail…
You'll never find your footing anywhere.
#8: You have no routine!
Routine is what makes your day go smooth.
And what makes you improve in any area of your life.
Because without it…
You spend your entire day doing different things that may be unrelated to your goal.
You don't pitch yourself to prospects as you should.
You don't practice for at least an hour a day…
You just sleep…
Play around…
And discover that another day has passed you by.
Develop a routine.
And stick to it.
#9: You are just a copycat
When you start writing copy…
You may have a copywriter you admire…
Who you'd like to model.
It's good.
But…
As you keep writing for yourself and clients…
And running ads to your copy.
You have to come up with your own voice
And a writing framework that never fails you.
A framework that converts every time!
This gives you your uniqueness.
It makes you not start every project with guesswork…
And it puts more wins under your belt.
#10: You’re lazy. That's it.
If you’re a lazy person…
Who cannot put in hours of work daily...
And would rather relax...
Maybe you should get a 9-5 to keep your income flowing.
Because if you don't approach prospects...
You don't practice your skill...
And you just scroll on Twitter all day...
How do you expect to win?
#11 (Bonus): You call the plural of copy “copies”
“I spent my entire day writing copies”
Is not correct! 😅
Copy is copy.
