The $METIS Almanac:
People already know how Vitalik Buterin is connected to @MetisDAO and its next gen L2 tech (if you don't - read this).
But did you know that Metis is building the hub for the entire web3 economy with ways to onboard all the legacy businesses?
@MetisDAO 2/25
So what is @MetisDAO and what makes it so special?
You are witnessing a giant in its genesis.
Metis combines everything Vitalik Buterin himself envisioned for Ethereum's future. And here's where it gets really interesting:
That didn't happen by chance!
3/25
Now that his mothers (Natalia Ameline) involvement in Metis is public and Vitalik has known the Metis CEO and family friend Elena since he was a toddler, it's quite easy to put two and two together.
Here you can see all three perform at EDCON 2019:
4/25
It's obvious why Metis has been implementing Vitalik's proposals that reach as far back as 2014, like the creation of DACs, all into the huge Metis infrastructure.
And why Vitalik interacts so quickly on the ETH forum with Metis programmers on issues essential to Ethereum:
5/25
The connection to him couldn't be clearer.
So what makes Metis different and better than all the other scaling solutions and most of Layer 1 networks?
It addresses all of the three elements of the Blockchain Trilemma:
Security, decentralization, and scalability.
6/25
Layer 1 networks like Solana and commit chains like Polygon are fast, cheap, and highly scalable...
But they compromise when it comes to security and decentralization.
Some rival L2 rollups have the opposite problem, falling short of providing fast and cheap transactions.
7/25
Polygon (controlled by a 5 of 8 multisig - 5 people control the whole blockchain) just did a silent hard fork of its entire network after a hack, Solana's network keeps going down after DDoS attacks...
That's not decentralized, it's a bad joke.
8/25
Metis checks all the boxes.
As a highly enhanced Optimistic Rollup built on ETH, it inherits all of Ethereum’s security and decentralization.
But Metis goes way beyond the classical rollup structure.
It offers unique cutting edge tech:
9/25
- parallel sequencers, enabling theoretical infinite scalability
- a Rangers system talked about by Vitalik to shorten the withdrawal to L1 eventually to minutes (other rollups take up to 7 days)
- IPFS storage to allow for files and NFTs to be natively! stored
10/25
- transaction times of a few seconds will cost just a few cents
- DACs: enhanced DAOs ready for the entire web3
- future proof EVM tech, Ethereum 2.0 sharding will be built on top of it, so Metis might even be considered the base of ETH 2.0
Vitalik explains this here:
11/25
Advantages over zK-Rollups:
Unlike zK Rollups, even after they might be fully operational in a year or a couple of years, Metis has no walled garden effect that can prevent the average developers to deploy their projects due to complexity issues:
12/25
Metis can integrate any ERC-20 blockchain easily.
Overall fees will be similar to zKs, but according to Vitalik in the foreseeable future zKs won't be usable for general purposes.
And by the time ZKs are finished a potential rollup war might very well already be over:
13/25
Let's get to the DACs, one of the center pieces of Metis and already proposed by Vitalik in 2013!
DACs are Decentralized Autonomous Companies - entities that go way beyond DAOs, giving people and companies the ability to build entire decentralized businesses on blockchain
14/25
Payroll management, project management, Slack-like messaging, ERP/CRM software, etc... all on blockchain!
From company giants like Nike or Amazon to a group of friends who want to trade NFTs with each other, investment groups, clubs, whatever. A hub for the entire web3.
15/25
The first native Layer 2 DEX in the world, @netswapofficial just launched on the Metis network.
And more than that, it’s also releasing its own launchpad soon and token holders will gain early access to IDOs - the type of benefit normally reserved for VCs and other whales
16/25
Talking about whales.
Even @zhusu of 3AC, who invested when Solana started, seems very interested, see below.
It's only a matter of time until bigger fish get wind of Metis.
Metis is on no big exchange yet, leaving incredible room for growth.
17/25
The Metis ecosystem grows daily at an incredible pace.
Its user experience due to the cheap and instant!!! execution of transactions is second to none and Metis might become the blockchain of choice for new projects to deploy on for this reason:
18/25
They already have more than 70 partners from the fields of DeFi, NFT, DAO, Gaming, Metaverse, Launchpads, Infrastructure, SocialFi and Web2 onboarded and have a huge backlog of projects waiting to be implemented.
And guess who sponsored their hackathon: Binance
19/25
And the fact that they put together a $100M fund from VCs (managed by Vitaliks mother) to support just the Metis ecosystem - at a time when Metis had a market cap of only $100M - is simply insane.
It shows how much the VCs believe in its future and its whole ecosystem.
20/25
The CEO Elena and Natalia (Vitaliks mother) founded an organisation called Cryptochicks a few years ago and also helped Aave to become what it is today.
Needless to say Aave is being integrated into Metis at this moment.
Here they are with Stani from Aave:
21/25
They managed to secure sponsorships by the likes of Microsoft, IBM and the Royal Bank of Canada for Cryptochicks, and "coincidentally" the Metis team gave a presentation of their tech to the Royal Bank.
Looks like they are bringing their connections with them.
22/25
Tokenomics:
Founding Team: 7%
MetisLab Foundation: 4%
Advisors: 1.5%
Investors: 18%
Airdrop: 6%
Liquidity Reserve: 6%
Community Development: 9%
The remaining 47.7% of the lifetime token supply will be minted over the next ten years.
Total supply after 10 years: 10M
23/25
TVL:
Of all L2s Metis has the fastest growing TVL. At this rate it might soon have surpassed most of the bigger competition.
With new bridges being constantly released and soon a native stablecoin, the TVL might go crazy. We are only at the beginning of its journey.
24/25
Metis is often compared to Polygon.
While that's problematic as Polygon is a commit chain and Metis a true L2, it's just insane to realize at what point $METIS is in its market cycle and what's yet to come.
When Polygon had the same mcap Metis is now at, it was here:
25/25
With $METIS being on no big exchange yet, the still tiny market cap compared to its competitors, yet at the same time fundamentally turning into a complete monster - it has everything going for it.
