As a salesperson it's important to understand your role and not just your tasks
This starts by having a one on one meeting with your manager
Here's what to ask if you want to be a top performer 👇
Before we start the thread RT the first tweet and follow @alxberman
Done? Let's go:
The point of a meeting like this is to get clear on:
1) what you need in to do in order to be a no-brainer hire
2) how you're measured: activity or results
3) competence and goals of your sales manager
Start by sending this email to your manager:
Subject: Goals & Expectations
Hi <first name>, I'd love to discuss my sales goals for the upcoming quarter and ask a few questions about how we can achieve them.
Are you around later this week?
Thanks,
<your name>
Quit reading and send that.
Done?
Good.
Now...
At the meeting, come prepared with the following questions:
What is the number 1 goal
I should achieve to be considered a great hire?
How does my goal fit into the larger goals of the organization?

What does the company want to do this year?
What is the number one task I should focus on to hit that goal?
How will you measure my performance to determine if I am a great hire?
Based on the answers to these questions you will either have
1) A roadmap to success
2) Insight into places your manager can improve (don't tell him yet)
Also keep in mind...
If your goal is to hit a revenue target, do not run your ideas by your boss for approval first
[Ask forgiveness not permission]
Always have open and honest conversations
[If your boss is wrong, let them know]
Keep asking questions to understand how the manager is rewarded so you can help them succeed
Their success is your success (in Phase 1)
Homework:
1) Ask your manager for a meeting and ask these questions. Don't think, Just do it.
2) Follow @alxberman and RT the first tweet for more threads like this
