Should you kill your ego?
Has anyone ever told you you have a big ego?
Or have you been told you think too little of yourself?
Let's help you decipher where you stand and How to fix it
//Thread//
1/ On the good side, without ego, you cannot become exceptional at anything.
Your ego loves to best the competition. It's what feeds into your mindset, willpower, drive, and focus.
And without it you'll be average.
2/ With a big ego, you're able to set big goals.
Obstacles are not an issue for you because you have that "can do" spirit pushing you to keep going
3/ People with big egos have few things in common
- They're confident in their ability to maneuver through life's problems.
- In those hard times, they keep their emotions in check.
These traits make them stand out, but it can become harmful if it's not in healthy doses.
4/ Trump's ego, for example, brought him lots of success and its fair share of problems
As Friedrich Nietzche put it, "Whenever I climb, I'm followed by a dog called Ego"
Ego takes away your peace because it cannot get enough of the power, praise, attention and money.
5/ But luckily you can create a middle ground between the two.
Where you have the drive, but your ego doesn't get out of hand and put you into trouble
6/ Think like a Beginner
Beginners want to learn.
Have the belief that there's something you can learn from even the most inexperienced person.
7/ Talk less, Do more
It's fun to talk about all you're planning.
That validation strengthens our ego and takes us back. Do the hard thing and work more than you talk.
8/ Learn to serve
Nothing humbles you more than service. But we all need to serve to lead
9/ Forget about the image
Your ego wants you obsessed about the image of being a CEO, writer, speaker or whatever.
Rather, you should focus on the impact you can make (purpose)
10/ It's up to you to hold yourself accountable.
Pay attention to your intentions. Pay attention to how you treat people. Pay attention to your actions.
