10 Lessons You Have Forgotten From Childhood
= THREAD =
1. Have a Simple Life
When we were kids we didn't need:
1. Gifts
2. Money
3. Fancy Things
Something as simple as throwing rocks at a tree would make us happy.
If you don't remember anything else, remember this:
Keep life simple and be joyful
2. Have an open mind
As kids when problems came up we just figured it out
Because we had no choice
This led to some pretty creative ways to accomplish daily tasks.
Also, help us discover that we can overcome so much
When you face a problem...
Breathe, then get creative
3. Have emotions
Kids don't hold in emotions
Obviously
However, they are slowly taught as adults to keep them in check
Which on the surface is sound thinking but can lead to unhealthy habits
Don't hold in your emotions for to long,
It's okay to feel
4. Don't be consumed by possessions
Kids are happiest when they are:
- With family
- Playing with friends
- Spending time outside
Learn from this,
Possessions will fade away
Memories last forever
5. It's okay to make mistakes
Messes and mistakes make us stronger
If we allow them to
Don't fall into the trap of being defined by your mistakes.
Here's how:
1. Admit you are wrong
2. Figure out how to be better
3. Let it go and give yourself grace
Simple, but effective
6. Sometime we gotta dance
For the last 3 months I have had a nightly dance party with my daughters
During this time I have learned that dancing releases a lot of stress
It also gives us a chance to just be silly and happy
So go on,
Pick your favorite song and let go
7. Don't hold grudges
Kids forgive people FAST
Because they have two amazing traits:
- Humility
- Love
Next time you find yourself in a position where you want to hold resentment
Don't
Give people the same grace you did when you were in grade school
8. Stand up for yourself
Kids have tantrums (I see it daily)
This can be frustrating, but also shows us something else
Kids stand up for what they believe in without an apologies
Be willing to fight for what you want, even when it may only make sense to you
9. This world needs passion
Kids have two extremes:
1. Passionately happy
2. Passionately upset
It's a beautiful thing
Passion is a fuel that drives success when we run into resistance
If you aren't pursuing your passion you are missing out on so much
10. Find the good in people
This last point is very important
Kids are genuinely optimistic and always celebrate the good in people
As adults we often do the opposite
We are always looking to guard ourselves from being hurt and that's no way to live
Look for the good today.
