Don't like your job? Want to quit?
This thread is for you...
1/Don't go around advertising in office that you are looking for a job change or how much you hate your job.
- Friend lookalikes are not friends.
- They are mostly going to advertise this to others.
- And, this will make your life difficult at work.
2/Avoid leaving on bad terms:
- Your new employer might ask for past references.
- So don't burn bridges with your ex-bosses (leave on neutral terms, if not bad).
- Bonus: if you are nice to your colleagues, many a times they help out with job switching.
3/Have a PLAN B.
- If you don't have a plan B, quitting and figuring out could be a dangerous idea.
- In India (especially) the competition for anything is super high.
So have a PLAN B. It need not be a great plan, but it needs to direction (eg. I will work on idea XYZ).
4/Keep at least 6 months of funds before quitting:
- An average job getting cycle can easily last for 6 months.
- Being financially stressed is the last thing you need.
- So build up some savings first and then think about quitting your job.
5/Think in terms of "value" before quitting:
- If you add limited value to your organisation.
- And, you can't add a lot of value to your next potential organisation.
Then the problem here could be the skillset.
Work on up-skilling, you will have more options.
Summary:
- Be sensible.
- Build options and be nice.
- And, understand your value.
