Spectacular setting in Tallinn, Estonia for @fermienergia conference, "Small but Mighty", on the topic of new nuclear energy for this classy lil Baltic republic.
Estonia sparkles with cool understated competence. Can it bring these vibes to reactor construction?
Yes I think so
I usually detest self-labeled "advanced" or "small modular" boosters for repeating antinuclear slurs, historical blindness, and hubris.
But sometimes your country is just really small!
Should Estonia pick a solid engineering approach and a great team, they could make magic.
In my opinion the star of the show so far is this intimately crafted model of a GE-Hitachi BWRX300 boiling water reactor.
In the 1990s, they were building 1300MW reactors in four years from basemat concrete to commercial operation.
That's the magic we're chasing in Estonia.
There's something special about a small modular nuclear conference in a small modular country where the government environmental regulators are young, sharp, and interested in pursuing actual environmental preservation through atomic energy.
