10 Rules Of Life From Heraclitus.
Wisdom from the philosopher nicknamed "The Obscure"
//Thread//
1) "No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man."
We are constantly changing.
The world is constantly changing.
To live, to exist, is to change.
2) "Time is a game played beautifully by children."
As children we so rarely worried about the time, yet it seemed like we always had plenty of it.
A child isn't worried about the future,
Isn't stuck in the past.
They are completely in the present.
3) "The soul is dyed the color of its thoughts."
Your thoughts become you.
Think negative thoughts and you become a negative person.
Think positive thoughts and you become a positive person.
4) "Abundance of knowledge does not teach men to be wise."
You can read all the books in the world, but that doesn't make you wise.
Knowledge not put into use is a waste.
Wisdom comes from the pragmatic use of that knowledge.
5) "We are most nearly ourselves when we achieve the seriousness of the child at play."
Children don't worry about what others think of them.
They don't have this fake sense of obligation towards others that so many of us have.
They are genuinely themselves.
6) "How can you hide from what never goes away?"
The one thing you can never fully escape from is yourself.
You have to spend every moment of your life with yourself, so you might as well make the effort to enjoy it.
7) "The sun is new each day."
Each day is a new opportunity.
It can either be an opportunity to become a better you, or a worse you.
And even if one day feels wasted, you can guarantee there's going to be another.
8) "Life has the name of life, but in reality it is death."
To live is to eventually die.
This is a fact no one can escape.
But this isn't a bad thing, death is what gives life beauty and meaning.
9) "All things come into being by conflict of opposites."
Existence is a constant give and take of contrast.
Yin and yang ☯️
Without evil there is no good
Without injustice there is no justice
Without cold there's no warmth
10) "Dog bark at what they don't understand."
One of the greatest tragedies of man is that he often condemns what he does not understand.
The unknown scares us,
But it's in the unknown that we will eventually find truth.
